Mr. Negative
By: Skylar T.

Mr. Negative lived in Positive City, where almost everyone was happy. Well everyone was happy, except for him. He didn’t belong, but he could only get a house here. He never bought mouthwatering candy for anyone on Halloween, because he didn’t want anyone to come to his cluttered, broken, and scary house. And everyone is positive, and says that if you recycle the world could change. But he says that if will never change no matter how many people recycle.

He lived in a small cottage on the outskirts of town, where it was far away from the other people in the city. He was always saying how terrible the day was, and if there were a storm, he would say they all wouldn’t live. And if someone thought they were good at something he would always make them cry by saying they are no good. He did this everyday, because it made him feel better.

One day he was taking his daily stroll by his house, not even bothering to go near the town square where everyone was always singing, dancing, and laughing. UGH!!! He absolutely hates that. Everyone is always positive and nice. If someone said their shirt was pretty, he would always find a way to bring them down. Like on Monday he told Mr. Happy that he looked terrible. And he told Little Miss Splendid that she looked like a walking trashcan. He also told Little Miss Hungry that she had bad taste in food. They all broke down in tears.

The next day he was out again on his daily walk, when out of nowhere popped out Mr. Happy. He stopped Mr. Negative to talk to him, but before he could say a word, Mr. Negative interrupted and shouted, “ Get out of my way!” He kept walking past Mr. Happy. Then Mr. Happy yelled back to him, “ Wait!” Mr. Negative stopped in his tracks and turned around to see him. “ Just listen for a second.” He quieted down a little. Mr. Negative rolled his, and whispered under his breath, “ Fine.” Mr. Happy looked very delightful, and exclaimed, “Thank you. Now you are always making others feel bad.” Mr. Negative rolled his eyes again, and commented with exaggeration in his voice, “I do not.”

Then right as he said that Little Miss Splendid started crying as soon as she saw him. His eyes widened and he was thinking how terrible he had been. He realized he didn’t want to be mean or hurtful, from his negativity. He felt terrible of what he had done to this wonderful city, and to these wonderful people. He stood up strong trying to hold back his own tears.

Then his frown turned upside down, and his eyebrows went from tilting toward his nose, to tilting away from his nose. His body started changing in to another shape. He looked at himself and said, shocked of how he changed, “Since I’ve changed, I know need a new name.” And from then on he was called Mr. Positive. He lived closer to Town Square. He was always singing and dancing with joy. He also always bought candy on Halloween, and was constantly buying gift and presents for others. He always had his neighbors come over and have his friends come over for parties. And then everyone wanted to be like him, and look up to him.

Whenever he got mad he wouldn’t take it out on people, he would write a letter saying he was mad and throw it in the recycle bin! Because he knew that one little difference could make an even bigger difference in the world. ☺
